“Good music, great food and peacefulness are the only real prerequisites I have for my funeral. I don’t want a lot of fuss. Just a fitting ‘see you soon’ celebration.”

I grew up in the UK surrounded by great music and Lonely Planet guides, back when books were a thing. My Mum was a primary school teacher and my Dad a Graphic Designer. I never had any siblings. Together we would spend four of the school summer holiday weeks every year exploring the world. This led to my love of languages which is what I went on to study at University. Now I work as a writer spending long periods of my career so far in New Zealand as I just love the place.
I helped Mum and Dad design their funeral plans and realised that without having any wider family (my parents were also only children) it was really important to me that my friends would know my wishes should the time come that they need to put them into action.
I want a simple celebration of my life held at the beach at sunrise.  Its just friends so I expect it to be small and intimate but with lots of song and laughter.  I want to be cremated and have my ashes scattered at a Hawkes Bay beach.  Although Tong and Peryer won’t be involved in this, I have left some money for a memorial chair for people to sit and enjoy the ocean as much as I have.  I would like them to faciliate a ceremony when the ashes are ready and the chair installed at the beach.
