How We Help

To Honour | To Remember | To Heal.

Remember, you're not alone.

No matter the circumstances surrounding the death of a loved one, you are not alone. People often say they don’t want to be a nuisance and they feel they have to shoulder the burden on their own, but we find that is always furthest from the truth. Friends, family and many professional support organisations are ready and willing to lend a hand, and often as simple as a phone call away.  As a funeral home, our role is to guide you through every step of the way with what you decide is appropriate. Our family care team have all the information and expertise you could need. Even before we start to make funeral arrangements, we can answer those nagging questions you may invariably need to ask.

We serve all faiths and cultures, and offer many types of funeral. Whether you choose a traditional or natural burial, cremation or repatriation. We are here to take care of every detail required to create a unique and appropriate funeral service, commemoration or celebration of life .

We believe that arranging a funeral should be an empowering and healing experience. At Tong & Peryer, we are here to support and guide you through every detail, helping you create a fitting ceremony or celebration of life. Our doors remain open to you after the funeral, enabling us to build a community for the bereaved and offer comfort and shared experience with people who understand loss.

Our Service Options

Throughout time, funerals have played a crucial role in helping us to say goodbye, while also connecting us with the loving support of friends and family. Planning and attending a meaningful funeral can have a lasting and profound impact on peoples lives and the way they grieve. We know how difficult and daunting it can all feel when someone you love dies, especially if you’re also responsible for arranging the funeral.

At Tong and Peryer, we believe one cannot underestimate the importance of arranging and planning a ceremony that honours and remembers the person who died. Our expert family care team will guide you every step of the way, from visitations through to a ceremony, each component should be meaningful and memorable. Whether a small and intimate with close family and friends, a large gathering in a church or favourite venue, a tangi at your marae or in the garden at home, the options are endless and often only limited by imagination (and of course, your budget).

Where to Begin

We don’t do packages. Below are some examples of our services to guide you on the choice of service you might like to consider. We can refine the options that best suit your need when we meet.

Unattended Cremation

An unattended cremation is also known as a direct cremation. We take the deceased into our care and casket them directly after washing and dressing.

There is no viewing or funeral service or gathering and the ashes are held at the funeral home for the family to collect.

Essential Care Cremation

For those seeking a more affordable funeral, our essential care is the ideal choice.

This option includes a cremation with a service people can attend. We take the deceased into our care, where they are washed and dressed and placed in a casket of your choice.

We include limited viewing times and an intimate service is held at the crematorium. Ashes are held at the funeral home for the family to collect.

Traditional Cremation Service

A bespoke funeral service for those seeking a more elaborate send-off. Everything we do is tailored to your wishes and we personalise the service to honour your loved one.

The service is held at a venue or location of your choice and often led by a celebrant or religious officiant. The service is followed by cremation at the Hastings Crematorium. Ashes are collected either in an eco-friendly container or an urn chosen by yourselves and this is returned to the family.

We are happy to assist you with any ash interment choices you make.

Traditional Burial Service

A bespoke burial service either at the graveside, marae with a service at a venue or location of your choice.

Everything we do is customised to your needs and we personalise the service to honour your loved one.

We are able to help you with the purchase of a plot and interment application and can advise on eco-friendly options such as natural burials.

Memorial Service

A cremation with a simple service at the Hastings crematorium. We take the deceased into our care, where they are washed and dressed and placed in a casket of your choice. With this option, we include limited viewing and an intimate service is held at the crematorium. Ashes are delivered to the funeral home for the family to collect.

Repatriation Service

When someone dies overseas, it can lead to extra worry and concern for the family about how their deceased loved ones will be brought home.
The process of bringing someone back to the NZ or taking someone who has died back to their home is called repatriation.
We have years of repatriation experience, and as with everything we do, we ensure it’s done with care, sensitivity, and integrity and in keeping with your cultural customs and beliefs.

What to expect when we meet

When you meet with a member of our family care team, we’ll work with you to clarify your wishes. We will ask about your loved one to gain a more intimate understanding of the person we will honour. This is an important  time for you to communicate your ideas and preferences, to share your loved one’s life story, revisit memories, and highlight their accomplishments. We will use this information to create a personalised, meaningful celebration of a life.

We welcome any questions that you may have about what may be possible. Don’t be afraid to ask. We’ve arranged so many different types of funerals and we love doing all we can to help make extraordinary and memorable moments happen.

We will also ask for information that will be required for Birth, Deaths and Marriages in order to file for a Death Certificate. Gathering this information ahead of time helps reduce stress at the time of passing.
